Selling in Ontario

Where to sell used goods in Ottawa

16 businesses in and around Ottawa that buy used goods from the public, or sell them on your behalf. For each one: what they buy, what they refuse, and exactly how the transaction works — because a pawn loan, a consignment split and an outright sale are three different things.

Verified 2026-09-24 from each business's own website. Prices, terms and what they take change without notice. We are not affiliated with any business listed here, none of them pay to be included, and we receive nothing if you sell to them.

If you are thinking about pawning something

A pawn loan is borrowing, not selling: you get your item back only by repaying the money plus all interest and fees by the date printed on the ticket, and if you miss that date the shop keeps the item and sells it.

Before you hand anything over, get three things written on the ticket: the interest rate, the total redemption figure in dollars, and the deadline. Across all fourteen cities we checked, almost no pawn shop publishes its rate anywhere on its website — so the only place you will see it is on the paperwork in front of you.

If you want money and do not want the item back, ask separately for an outright purchase price and compare the two. They are different numbers for different transactions, and a shop that offers both will not necessarily volunteer which one it is quoting.

What will they actually pay?

We do not publish an average payout, because nobody publishes one. Any site quoting you "typically 60% of retail" invented it. Across 189 businesses in fourteen cities, a handful publish a consignment split, one publishes a per-gram gold table, and not one pawn shop, scrap yard or electronics buyer publishes what it pays relative to resale value.

What we can tell you is the shape of it. Consignment pays the most and pays last, often on a declining scale as the item sits. An outright sale pays least and pays today. Metals and gold are weight times purity minus a spread nobody states, so the only real number is the one at the scale. And for a great deal of what comes out of a cleared house — flat-pack furniture, book-club paperbacks, old encyclopedias, out-of-season sports gear, adult clothing more than a few years old — the honest answer is that nobody in these fourteen cities will pay anything for it at all. The refusal lists below are the evidence.

Pawn shops in Ottawa

Two completely different transactions under one roof. Read the box above before you go into any of these.

Arley's Pawn Shop

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buysgold jewellery, silver, electronics, designer pieces, general items of value
The dealTheir site offers two different transactions. One is an outright purchase: they state they "purchase your items outright" and "Purchase Almost Anything Of Value". The other is a collateral loan, which is secured borrowing rather than a sale: the shop holds the item and their site states you are "not obligated to pay one cent until the end of the loan." No interest rate is published on the site. Under the Pawnbrokers Act the pawnticket must state the rate of interest charged and the sum lent, so the rate is on the ticket even when it is not on the website. They publish per-gram buying prices for 9k through 24k gold and for sterling silver; those move with the metal market, so check the figure on the day. Their site also advertises a 0% interest layaway plan, which is a separate thing again.
Where326 Montreal Rd, Ottawa, ON
An outright sale and a collateral loan are different transactions with different paperwork. Confirm which one you are signing. The site publishes no interest rate; the pawnticket is required to state it.

BuyTown BuyBack

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buysgold, silver, video games, brand-name power tools, musical instruments, electronics, cellphones, tablets, laptops, select watches, collectables
The dealTheir site runs two modes. They "buy many different pre-owned items" outright, and they separately offer "fast & easy collateral loans", which is secured borrowing: the shop holds the item as security and returns it when the loan is repaid on the agreed terms. No interest rate, fee or payout percentage is published on the site. Nearest of the pawn options to Ottawa's west end.
Where2066 Robertson Rd, Nepean, ON K2H 9R6
A "buy-back" or collateral loan is secured credit, not a sale. The site publishes no rate or cost figure.

Howard's Pawn Shop

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buysgold and jewellery, tools, phones, gaming consoles, televisions, electronics
The dealTheir site describes "Buying, Selling, and Trading of New and Used" goods, and separately offers "30-day CA$H loans on your items", which is a loan secured on the item rather than a sale. They also do gold repair and sizing. Payment methods listed on their site: "Cash, Debit, Credit, E-Transfer, Apple Pay, PayPal". No interest rate, fee schedule or loan-to-value figure is published.
Where1052 St. Laurent Blvd, Unit 1, Ottawa, ON K1K 3B4
The same premises also advertises payday loans, a separate credit product with its own requirements (their site lists 90 days of banking history, recent pay stubs and a pre-authorized debit authorization). Selling an item outright, taking a 30-day loan against it, and taking a payday loan are three distinct transactions. Nothing about walking in to sell goods obliges you to discuss credit.

Electronics buy-back in Ottawa

They pay cash or credit for working electronics, phones and games.

PayMore Kanata

Buys outright Bring it to them
Buyssmartphones, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles and games, cameras, audio devices, wearables, most other consumer electronics
The dealA storefront electronics buy-back. Staff evaluate the device and their site states they pay "cash on the spot". Condition is not a bar to an offer: their site says "Working, broken, cracked, water-damaged - bring it in anyway," though condition will affect the number. They ask you to bring "a valid government-issued photo ID", and state they erase personal information from devices in store, in front of you. No payout percentage is published.
Where420 Hazeldean Rd Unit 7, Kanata, ON K2L 4B2
Bring photo ID, chargers and accessories, and know your device passcode and account logins. A device still locked to an account is usually worth little to a buy-back. Back up anything you want to keep before handing it over, because wiping is part of the process.

Consignment stores in Ottawa

They sell it for you and keep a share. More money than an outright sale, but you wait for it, and you get nothing if it does not sell.

The Recollective

Consignment Bring it to them
Buysluxury handbags and clothing (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Gucci, Prada, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Burberry, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Acne Studios, Isabel Marant), contemporary brands (Aritzia, Zara, H&M, COS, & Other Stories, Arket, Free People, Mango, Madewell, Sezane, Ralph Lauren, Levi's, Everlane, Smythe, All Saints, Anine Bing, Zadig & Voltaire, Gap, Banana Republic), accessories
Won't takeReitmans, SHEIN, Amazon brands, Forever 21, Michael Kors handbags, Nine West, Suzy Shier, items with wear, holes, pilling or stains
The dealOne of the few Ottawa consignors that publishes its split. Their consign page states: "For items SOLD for less than $200, you earn 30% cash or 40% store credit. Sold for $200-$500, you earn 50%. Sold for $500-$700, you earn 60%. Sold for $700+, you earn 70%." Separately they offer a "bag buyout" on contemporary pieces at roughly 20% of resale price, paid in cash at drop-off, which is an outright sale rather than consignment. Items must arrive washed and folded in a bag, with your name and email labelled inside and outside.
Where455 Churchill Avenue North, Ottawa, ON
Their site states it may take up to 60 days after drop-off to receive pricing, and that unsold items are automatically donated to their charity partner 60 days after pricing. If you want unsold items back, those are the dates to diarise.

Total Home Consignment

Consignment Bring it to them
Buysfurniture, home decor
Won't takeitems that are not clean or missing working parts
The dealA furniture and decor consignment showroom that does publish its terms. Their site states items are placed in the showroom for a 90-day term; the consignor receives 50% of the selling price for the first 60 days and 40% for the last 30 days. The price is reduced every 15 days to increase the chance of a sale. Email photos to info@totalhomeconsignment.com for a free evaluation; items need pre-approval and must be clean with all working parts. Delivery to the store is the consignor's responsibility, though they can recommend a delivery service.
Where1860 Bank Street Unit 4, Ottawa, ON K1V 7Z8
Consignment is not a sale. You are paid only if and when the item sells, at whatever price it has been marked down to by then. Their site states that at the end of the term unsold items must be picked up or mutual arrangements made, and that items left unclaimed are "considered abandoned and are donated or sold for storage fees."

Valamode

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buysdesigner handbags, accessories, shoes, jewellery, sunglasses, home accessories
The dealAn Ottawa luxury resale business offering, per its own site, consignment, buyouts (outright purchase), a "closet cleanse" service and estate management. No commission, split or payout percentage is published on the site. The showroom is "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" and contact is by email to info@valamode.com to book.
WhereTheir site describes an Ottawa showroom by appointment only. No street address and no phone number are published on the site; contact is by email to arrange an appointment.
No public premises listed. We could not find a street address or phone on their site — contact them through it before making any plans.
A buyout and a consignment are different transactions and produce different numbers for the same item. No address is published on their site, so confirm where you are going before travelling with valuables.

Dealers who buy outright in Ottawa

Furniture, antiques and household goods bought on the spot. Fastest route, lowest price.

Ottawa Antique Market

Quote first May collect — ask
Buysantiques, collectibles, jewellery, silverware, early Canadiana, fine art, art deco, art nouveau, mid-century modern, Victorian and Georgian, folk art, Indigenous art, Persian rugs, vintage posters, records, classic toys and memorabilia, vintage clothing and textiles
The dealTheir site states: "Whether it is one item or an entire estate you can bring your items to the Market or give us a call at 613-730-6000 so we can arrange to view your items at your home." Whether a given item is bought outright or taken on some other basis is not stated on the site, so establish which before anything leaves the house. Useful when you are clearing a whole house and cannot sort it yourself.
Where1179A Bank Street, Ottawa, ON
For a house visit, establish in advance whether the visit is free, and whether you are being made a single offer for the lot or item-by-item prices.

Spaceman Music

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buyselectric, acoustic and bass guitars, amplifiers, PA systems, recording gear, microphones, keyboards, effects pedals
The dealA Gladstone Avenue instrument shop whose site states: "We take trades, buy outright and consign." That means you can ask for all three numbers on the same instrument: a cash offer now, a trade value against something in the shop, or a price they would list it at on consignment. No consignment percentage is published. They also have an on-site service department, which matters because a setup or repair can change what a playable instrument is worth.
Where388 Gladstone Ave., Ottawa, ON K2P 0Z1
An outright cash offer, a trade credit and a consignment listing price are three different numbers for the same instrument, and only the first is money in hand today. Ask which one you are being quoted.

Gold and jewellery buyers in Ottawa

Paid against the daily spot price, minus a margin almost nobody publishes.

Canada Gold (Ottawa)

Buys outright Bring it to them
Buysgold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion, gold and silver jewellery, luxury watches, diamonds, collectible coins, old Canadian paper money, scrap precious metal
The dealA walk-in precious metals buyer with two Ottawa locations. Their site states no appointment is necessary, though you can call ahead to arrange a consultation. They refer to current market rates but publish no percentage of spot and no fixed payout figure.
WhereTheir site refers to an east and a west Ottawa location with separate numbers: east 613-422-0909, west 613-979-4653, toll-free 1-888-219-7001. Street addresses and hours are not set out on the pages checked, so confirm the address of the branch you intend to visit when you call.
Their site states: "A valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's licence, passport, or provincial ID card) is required by law to complete any transaction." Turning up without one means no sale. Payout depends on purity and weight, which is why they test in store.

Gold Lobby

Buys outright Bring it to them
Buysgold jewellery, sterling silver, platinum, luxury watches
The dealA fixed-premises buyer on Wellington West. Their site states items are tested in store with XRF equipment (a Niton DXL analyzer) without scratching or filing, that "There is no commitment on your part," and that "If you decide to accept our offer, we will pay you immediately with cash or a cheque." They publish live per-karat buying rates on their site with a last-updated date; those move with the metal market, so read the figure on the day you go rather than relying on one quoted anywhere else.
Where1283-A Wellington Street West, Ottawa, ON
Scrap gold is paid on metal weight and purity, not on what the piece cost or on any antique or design value. Testing here is described as free and non-binding, so a second opinion elsewhere costs only time.

Scrap metal yards in Ottawa

Paid by weight and grade at the scale. Appliances, copper, aluminium, radiators.

CFT Group (scrap metal recycling)

Paid by weight Not stated — ask
Buyscopper wire and tubing, aluminum cans, siding and extrusions, steel beams, rebar and structural steel, stainless steel appliances and fixtures, brass valves, fittings and plumbing, lead batteries and sheet lead, cast iron, zinc, nickel and specialty alloys, end-of-life vehicles, industrial equipment, demolition scrap
The dealYou bring material to the yard and are paid on weight and grade. Their site states you will "receive a competitive payout based on current market prices - same-day payment guaranteed." The payment method (cash versus cheque) is not stated. Prices per pound or tonne are not published and move with commodity markets, so phone for the day's price before loading a truck. For large quantities their site says they "can arrange container drop-off and pickup at your location."
Where6682 Bank St, Ottawa, ON K0A 2P0
Scrap is paid by weight and grade, not by what the item cost new. Appliances containing refrigerant are handled differently from plain steel, so confirm acceptance before hauling one in.

Palmer Recycling

Paid by weight Not stated — ask
Buysold vehicles, appliances, copper, brass, aluminum, electronics, computers, scrap metal generally
The dealA weigh-in scrap yard in south Ottawa that buys "all scrap metal". Their site does not state the payment method or the price basis, so ask when you call. For several tonnes or more they supply a roll-off container, and they will collect heavy equipment over about 4 tonnes that cannot be brought in.
Where3191 Albion Rd. South, Ottawa, ON K1V 8Y3
Their site states the scale closes 15 minutes before closing, so arriving at the posted closing time is too late. No prices are published; confirm the rate for your metal by phone before making the trip.

Auto salvage and scrap cars in Ottawa

Non-running vehicles, usually towed free. Often the single most valuable thing on a property.

Kenny U-Pull Ottawa

Buys outright May collect — ask
Buyscars, running or not, trucks, vans, end-of-life and damaged vehicles
The dealYou request a free quote, and their site states they provide "free towing" and "cash on the spot". No price range is published, since it depends on the vehicle. Their site asks you to "have your license and vehicle details ready" when you call.
Where6638 Bank St, Metcalfe, ON K0A 2P0
On liens their site says: "If there is an active lien on the vehicle, you usually need to resolve it before a licensed scrap yard can legally purchase the vehicle," and that an undisclosed lien may mean the transaction "may be delayed or cancelled once the lien is discovered." Selling a vehicle in Ontario also means dealing with the plates and the registration.

Book and record shops in Ottawa

They buy selectively. Most general paperbacks are worth nothing to anyone.

Vertigo Records

Quote first May collect — ask
Buysvinyl: soul, funk, jazz, blues, punk, indie, metal, reggae, hip hop, classic rock, alternative rock, CDs and cassettes in good condition
Won't takeclassical, big band, easy listening, crooners, French-language pop, dance, any LP with mould, LPs with deep scratches or warps
The dealBring records in during business hours for a quote. Their site states they pay cash for used items, with a higher value available if you take store credit instead. If you are bringing more than 50 items they ask you to call the store first. House calls are available depending on the size and quality of the collection. Condition standards are published: LPs need no deep scratches or warps, CDs need minimal scratches, and cassettes must be complete and rust-free.
Where1208 Bank St., Ottawa, ON
Store credit is worth more than cash here by the shop's own account, but it is only spendable in that shop. Their site is explicit that mouldy LPs will not be bought under any circumstances, so check boxes that have been in a basement before loading the car.

Patrick McGahern Books

Quote first Not stated — ask
Buysrare books in most subjects, Arctic and northern material, Canadiana, voyages and travel, military history, individual items and collections of all sizes
Won't takedamaged books, encyclopedias, textbooks
The dealAn antiquarian dealer whose site states: "We buy individual items and collections of all sizes. We buy rare books in most subjects," with particular interest in the Arctic, Canadiana, voyages and travel, and military history. This is the outlet for one good old book rather than twelve boxes of paperbacks. Their site says they welcome all enquiries; contact them with details before hauling anything in. No payout basis or percentage is published.
Where11 Murray Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 9M5
Their site states they do not buy damaged books, encyclopedias or textbooks. General used paperbacks and book-club editions are not what a rare book dealer is looking for.

Before you go

  • Take government photo ID. Several of these businesses say plainly that they cannot buy from you without it, and that a health card will not do.
  • Phone ahead with the specifics. Make, model, age, condition. Most refusals happen at the counter over something that could have been settled in a two-minute call.
  • Get more than one number if the item is worth more than a hundred dollars or so. Offers on the same item vary widely.
  • Ask which transaction you are being offered — a purchase, a consignment or a loan — and get it in writing.
We could not verify this city’s municipal rules for second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers from an official source, so we state none. Check with the City or the province before relying on anything you read about them elsewhere.

Worth nothing? That is a real answer too.

Most of what comes out of a cleared house will not sell at any price, and the businesses above will tell you so at the counter. Photograph it first and we will tell you before you drive anywhere — and if the answer is that it is worth nothing, we will point you at the Ottawa charities that will still take it.

Common questions

Will a pawn shop in Ottawa give me a loan or buy it outright?
Many do both, and they are entirely different transactions. A loan means you get the item back only if you repay the money plus interest and fees by the date on the ticket; miss it and the shop keeps and sells your item. An outright sale is final. Ask for both numbers separately and compare them.
How much will I actually get?
Less than you think, and nobody publishes a reliable average — we checked 189 businesses across fourteen cities. Consignment pays most and pays last. An outright sale pays least and pays today. Scrap and gold are weight and purity against the day’s market, minus a margin almost nobody states.
Will any of them collect from my house in Ottawa?
Auto salvage almost always tows a non-running car free. Some furniture dealers and consignment shops will collect, usually for a fee or above a minimum value. Scrap yards that advertise collection generally mean a commercial roll-off bin, not a van for a box of copper. Every listing here says what we could confirm and nothing more.
Do I need identification?
Almost certainly, and it is the most common cause of a wasted trip. Several businesses state plainly that government-issued photo ID is required and that a health card will not be accepted. Take a driving licence or passport.
What is genuinely worth nothing?
Flat-pack furniture, most paperbacks, encyclopedias, classical and easy-listening records, out-of-season sports equipment and adult clothing more than a few years old. The refusal lists on this page are the evidence. Those things can still be donated, and often should be.
