14 businesses in and around Edmonton that buy used goods from the
public, or sell them on your behalf. For each one: what they buy, what they refuse, and
exactly how the transaction works — because a pawn loan, a consignment split and an outright
sale are three different things.
Verified 2026-09-24 from each business's own website. Prices, terms and what
they take change without notice. We are not affiliated with any business listed here, none of
them pay to be included, and we receive nothing if you sell to them.
If you are thinking about pawning something
A pawn loan is borrowing, not selling: you get your item back only by repaying the
money plus all interest and fees by the date printed on the ticket, and if you miss that
date the shop keeps the item and sells it.
Before you hand anything over, get three things written on the ticket: the interest
rate, the total redemption figure in dollars, and the deadline. Across all
fourteen cities we checked, almost no pawn shop publishes its rate anywhere on its website —
so the only place you will see it is on the paperwork in front of you.
If you want money and do not want the item back, ask separately for an outright purchase
price and compare the two. They are different numbers for different transactions, and a shop
that offers both will not necessarily volunteer which one it is quoting.
What will they actually pay?
We do not publish an average payout, because nobody publishes one. Any site quoting
you "typically 60% of retail" invented it. Across 189 businesses in fourteen cities, a
handful publish a consignment split, one publishes a per-gram gold table, and not one pawn
shop, scrap yard or electronics buyer publishes what it pays relative to resale value.
What we can tell you is the shape of it. Consignment pays the most and pays last, often on a
declining scale as the item sits. An outright sale pays least and pays today. Metals and gold
are weight times purity minus a spread nobody states, so the only real number is the one at
the scale. And for a great deal of what comes out of a cleared house — flat-pack furniture,
book-club paperbacks, old encyclopedias, out-of-season sports gear, adult clothing more than
a few years old — the honest answer is that nobody in these fourteen cities will pay anything
for it at all. The refusal lists below are the evidence.
Pawn shops in Edmonton
Two completely different transactions under one roof. Read the box above before you go into any of these.
BuysGold, silver and diamonds, Jewellery and watches, Electronics, phones, tablets, Gaming consoles, Computers and laptops, Musical instruments, Tools, Antiques and collectibles, Motorcycles and bicycles
The dealTwo different transactions under one roof. They lend against goods, and they also buy outright: the site says "If you'd rather sell than pawn, we can buy your items for cash." A pawn is a loan secured on your item - you keep a claim on it only if you repay and redeem within the agreed term, and if you do not the item is forfeited to the shop. An outright sale ends your claim on the item the moment you take the money. Establish which of the two you are being offered before you sign. No interest rate, fee schedule or loan term is published on their site.
Where3906 118 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5W 0Z9
The site does not publish loan charges, the redemption period or any ID requirement. Ask for the loan agreement in writing and read the redemption date and the total cost to repay before handing the item over.
BuysGold, Cameras, Music equipment, Electronics, Firearms, Tools
The dealThe site says "We look forward to dealing with your pawns, and purchases" - so they will either lend against an item or buy it outright. Ask which one you are being offered, because the numbers and the consequences differ: a pawn is a loan you must repay to get the item back, a purchase is final.
Where10319 97 Street NW, Edmonton, AB
The strictest published ID rule of any Edmonton shop we checked: "ALL CUSTOMERS MUST PRODUCE 2 (TWO) PIECES OF IDENTIFICATION, ONE PIECE MUST BE VALID PHOTO ID" and "YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE. THIS IS THE LAW." The site also states it maintains partnerships with local police services. Turning up without two pieces of ID means a wasted trip.
BuysJewellery and gold, Electronics, Smartphones and tablets, Computers, Sporting goods, Musical instruments, Watches, Tools, Artwork, antiques and collectibles
The dealPrimarily a collateral lender. The site describes bringing an item in, having it assessed and being offered a short-term loan against it, and states the loan window plainly: "You have 30 days (plus 7 days grace) to return for your items." That is a pawn loan, not a sale - if you do not return and repay in full inside that window the item is forfeited and goes to their sales floor. They will also purchase items outright if you do not want the item back.
Where15241 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB T5P 3Y4
30 days plus a 7-day grace period is the only loan term published. No interest rate, storage charge or service fee is stated anywhere on the site, so ask for the total repayment figure in writing before you agree.
BuysSmartphones, Tablets, Laptops, Gaming systems and video games, Digital cameras, Audio gear and headphones, Smartwatches, Computer components - GPUs, CPUs, RAM, motherboards
The dealA straight purchase for cash, assessed in store. Their described flow is that you bring the device in, they evaluate it, and you "Accept our evaluation and walk out with immediate cash payment." No loan is involved and nothing is held against you.
Where2003 Tudor Glen Pl, St. Albert, AB T8N 3V4
They require "valid government-issued identification." Back up and factory-reset your device and sign out of any linked account before you go - once you accept payment the device is theirs. Phone ahead before driving out, as franchise locations change.
BuysUsed furniture - living room, dining room and bedroom, Home decor, wall art, pillows and throws, Show-home furniture and accessories, Vintage and eclectic pieces
The dealConsignment, not a cash sale. They describe the process as "We take it - we store it - we sell it. You get paid!" - meaning you are paid after and only if the item sells, not on the day you drop it off. No commission split or percentage is published anywhere on their site.
Where16852 111 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB
No split, no pricing authority and no unsold-item policy is published. Before signing, get in writing what percentage you receive, who sets the price, how long they hold the item, whether the price is marked down over time, and what happens if it does not sell.
BuysDesigner handbags, Designer wallets and accessories, Designer shoes, Designer jackets
Won't takeItems that are heavily worn, Items that are stained, Items with a strong odour
The dealConsignment on a sliding commission, with occasional outright buyouts. They state "The commission rate for each item is based on price, condition, and current popularity/demand" and that pricier, higher-demand items carry a lower commission rate. No actual percentages are published. For fast sellers they say "If your item is a high demand/popular seller we may offer a direct buy out" - that is an outright sale, paid immediately rather than after a buyer is found. On consigned items: "Once the consigned item has sold, the consignor is paid via email money transfer or cheque."
WhereOnline luxury consignment in the Edmonton area. Local consignors can arrange drop off in St. Albert; sellers outside the area ship at their own cost.
No public premises listed. We could not find a street address or phone on their site — contact them through it before making any plans.
At the time of checking the page carried the notice "PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE ACCEPTING VERY LIMITED ITEMS AT THE MOMENT." Contact before making plans. Non-local consignors pay their own postage - they state "We do not cover shipping expenses" - so an unsold item can cost you money.
The dealOutright purchase, including whole-house lots. They say "Capital Second Hand commonly purchases estate furniture, jewellery and antiques and collectibles from our Edmonton and area clients," that "Capital will swoop in and purchase the entire estate contents," and that they will "handle the removal of the furniture to make the process as seamless as possible." Removal is part of the service, which matters if you are emptying a house on a deadline.
Where15230 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB
Payment method and timing are not stated on their site. For an estate lot, ask for an itemised or at least category-by-category offer rather than a single number, and settle in advance who removes and pays for the items they do not want.
The dealThey buy selectively and want photographs first: "We do buy. But it's not a garage sale. Send photos and we'll tell you straight whether we want it," and "If you're not sure, send photos before you load anything. We'd far rather tell you honestly over email than have you make the trip for nothing." They are upfront that "Sometimes we buy them, sometimes we just take them out" - removal is not the same as payment. They will also walk a site before demolition and pull out what is worth keeping, and note "It works best when we're brought in early."
WhereEdmonton reclaimed and used building materials dealer. They do not publish a street address - the site says viewing and pickup are by appointment, so contact them to arrange it.
Payment terms are not published, and free removal is not a purchase. Establish clearly whether a given job is a purchase or a no-cost removal before any work starts. They state they can only take material in resaleable condition.
BuysJewellery, gold, silver, diamonds and gems, Coin and currency collections, Comics and sports memorabilia, Oil and gas antiques, Artwork, ephemera and maps, Cameras, Clocks and watches, Militaria, swords and historical objects, Taxidermy, fossils and ivory, Toys, carvings and oddities
The dealOutright purchase - "We are Always buying antiques & Treasures!" They also state "We also purchase complete estates and collections." They run weekly appraisal clinics at five of their locations, 11am-4pm, where you can "Bring your antiques, jewellery, and family heirlooms to meet appraiser and auctioneer Clinton Beck." No payout percentage or rate is disclosed on the site.
WhereEdmonton-area locations: West Edmonton Mall, upstairs between The Brick and The Bay (780-229-7777, Mon-Sat 10am-9pm, Sun 11am-6pm); 124 Street Edmonton (780-474-7447, Mon-Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 11am-5pm); St. Albert Centre (780-705-8505, Mon-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat-Sun 10am-6pm); Sherwood Park Mall (780-793-3776); and Leduc (780-229-3359, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-5pm). They list further stores outside the metro. Street addresses are not published for the mall locations.
No public premises listed. We could not find a street address or phone on their site — contact them through it before making any plans.
An appraisal opinion and a purchase offer are two different numbers - a dealer buying for resale must leave room for their own margin. The clinics are free to attend, so you can find out what something is before deciding where to sell it.
BuysCanadian gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion - bars, ingots, rounds and coins, Gold, silver and platinum jewellery, Collectible and mint coins, Old Canadian paper money, Dental gold and scrap precious metal, Sterling silverware, Luxury watches - Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Tiffany, Cartier, Breitling, Patek Philippe, IWC, Audemars Piguet
Won't takeNatural diamonds smaller than 0.4 carats - they state they purchase diamonds "larger than 0.4 carats", Diamonds below colour grade N, Silver with no recognised hallmark - "All silver items must display a recognized hallmark (such as 925, STER, or Sterling)"
The dealA fixed-premises precious metal buyer, not a pop-up. They evaluate with testing equipment and issue a quote before any sale, and state "No pressure to sell, ever. Our free quotes come with no obligation." A free no-obligation quote is worth asking for anywhere you sell gold, because it lets you compare against another buyer the same day. No prices, premiums or payout percentages are stated on the page.
WhereTwo Edmonton storefronts. Edmonton 780-758-7757, Edmonton West 780-244-4890, toll free 1-888-219-7001. Street addresses and hours are not published on their sell-to-us page - phone before travelling.
No public premises listed. We could not find a street address or phone on their site — contact them through it before making any plans.
You must be "18 years of age or older" and produce "A valid government-issued photo ID" - driver's licence, passport or provincial ID card. Note their published buying rules on stones: they purchase natural diamonds only at colour N or better and larger than 0.4 carats, so a ring set with many small stones falls outside what they buy as diamonds. If your jewellery has meaningful gemstones, have it assessed as jewellery before selling it to a metal buyer.
BuysCopper, Aluminum, Brass, Stainless steel, Alloys, Lead acid batteries, Steel and cast iron, Vehicles, Industrial metals and farm implements
The dealYou bring metal to the yard, it is weighed, and you are paid by weight at the grade and the day's rate. They accept material from anyone including individual consumers, with no minimum quantity. They are explicit that the rate moves: "The price of metal differs depending on the type of metal and can fluctuate from day to day." A bin service is available separately if you have the volume to justify a container.
WhereTwo Edmonton yards: West End at 11915 156 Street, T5V 1E8 (780-453-7000) and South Side at 4120 84 Avenue, T6B 3H3 (780-452-5865). Hours Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat 8am-1pm, closed Sunday.
No public premises listed. We could not find a street address or phone on their site — contact them through it before making any plans.
No prices are published and none should be assumed - phone for the day's rate for your specific metal before loading up, because a trip with a few kilos of mixed metal can cost more in fuel than it returns. They publish a "We Don't Accept" list; check it for your item before travelling.
BuysScrap cars, Trucks, Vans, SUVs, Non-running and wrecked vehicles
The dealOutright purchase of the vehicle. They state: "Get cash in hand from us today for your scrap, old or wrecked, Car, Truck, Van or SUV in any condition." On payment method their FAQ says "Yes, we pay our customers in cash, not a cheque!" Towing is offered for vehicles that cannot be driven in.
Where1201 76 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6P 1P2
The site does not state what ownership paperwork or ID you need, does not list hours, and does not say whether towing is free. Phone and confirm all three before you book anything.
BuysUsed vinyl: classic rock, indie, punk, metal, reggae, electronic, soul, funk, post rock, hip hop, rock and blues, Jazz, country and folk by established artists, selectively
Won't takeMost big band records, Most classical records, Most easy listening records, Records that are severely scratched or warped, Used CDs
The dealThey buy records outright, with a choice of payment: cash, or store credit which they say is worth more - the site offers "fair prices and even more money for in-store credit." Store credit is only worth taking if you actually shop there. They also state that condition of both the record and the jacket factors into the offer.
Where10442 82 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A2
Appointment required - they ask you to "set up an appointment with our used records buyer before coming in." Do not turn up with boxes unannounced. Inherited collections of big band, classical and easy listening, very common in a house clearance, are exactly what they say they avoid.
BuysCollectible books - antique, leather-bound, unusual, old, Ancient history and military history, Arctic, Canadian art, history and literature, especially local histories, Mountaineering, Native studies, Natural history, New age, philosophy and religion, Photography, poetry and travel
Won't takeBooks not in good condition - missing dustjackets, worn, torn, damp-stained, smoke-damaged, Book-of-the-month publications, Magazines and journals, Popular fiction in paperback, Reader's Digest publications, Romance novels, Textbooks, Time/Life publications, Large format coffee-table books, National Geographic, Dictionaries and encyclopedias
The dealThey assess and buy selected books. Whether payment is cash or trade credit is not stated on their site, so ask. They tell you to phone first and to bring "a sample of a few books" rather than everything, because "It is difficult to give a quote over the phone."
Where10533 82 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A3
Their published refusal list is long and covers most of what comes out of an ordinary house. If your boxes are paperback fiction, textbooks, National Geographic or Reader's Digest editions, this is not a trip worth making.
Take government photo ID. Several of these businesses say plainly
that they cannot buy from you without it, and that a health card will not do.
Phone ahead with the specifics. Make, model, age, condition. Most
refusals happen at the counter over something that could have been settled in a
two-minute call.
Get more than one number if the item is worth more than a hundred
dollars or so. Offers on the same item vary widely.
Ask which transaction you are being offered — a purchase, a
consignment or a loan — and get it in writing.
We could not verify this city’s municipal rules for second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers from an official source, so we state none. Check with the City or the province before relying on anything you read about them elsewhere.
Worth nothing? That is a real answer too.
Most of what comes out of a cleared house will not sell at any price, and the businesses above
will tell you so at the counter. Photograph it first and we will tell you before you drive
anywhere — and if the answer is that it is worth nothing, we will point you at
the Edmonton charities that will still take it.
Will a pawn shop in Edmonton give me a loan or buy it outright?
Many do both, and they are entirely different transactions. A loan means you get the item back only if you repay the money plus interest and fees by the date on the ticket; miss it and the shop keeps and sells your item. An outright sale is final. Ask for both numbers separately and compare them.
How much will I actually get?
Less than you think, and nobody publishes a reliable average — we checked 189 businesses across fourteen cities. Consignment pays most and pays last. An outright sale pays least and pays today. Scrap and gold are weight and purity against the day’s market, minus a margin almost nobody states.
Will any of them collect from my house in Edmonton?
Auto salvage almost always tows a non-running car free. Some furniture dealers and consignment shops will collect, usually for a fee or above a minimum value. Scrap yards that advertise collection generally mean a commercial roll-off bin, not a van for a box of copper. Every listing here says what we could confirm and nothing more.
Do I need identification?
Almost certainly, and it is the most common cause of a wasted trip. Several businesses state plainly that government-issued photo ID is required and that a health card will not be accepted. Take a driving licence or passport.
What is genuinely worth nothing?
Flat-pack furniture, most paperbacks, encyclopedias, classical and easy-listening records, out-of-season sports equipment and adult clothing more than a few years old. The refusal lists on this page are the evidence. Those things can still be donated, and often should be.
