Where to sell clothes and textiles in Halifax

7 businesses in and around Halifax that buy used clothes from the public — what each takes, and whether you are offered a purchase, a consignment or a loan.

Verified 2026-09-24 from each organization's own website. We are not affiliated with anyone listed here, nobody pays to be included, and we receive nothing if you sell to them.

How to tell what you have got

Before you call anyone, two minutes with the object settles most of it. None of this needs an expert — it needs a flashlight and a look at the back.

  • Teen and young-adult mall brands from the last 12 to 18 monthsIt buys all seasons year-round, takes walk-ins with no appointment, and requires items freshly laundered and free of odours. Sizes are adult only and the ranges are set per store: the London page gives girls 0 to 30 and up to 6X and guys XS to 4X and 28 to 44 inch waist, while the chain's national sell-to-us page gives girls 0 to 6X and guys 28 to 3X. Check your own store's page rather than assuming. No kids or youth sizes anywhere.
  • Premium outerwear and technical kit in near-new conditionBring it in June, not in October. VSP publishes its calendar: "Spring-Summer intake begins in December and Fall-Winter intake begins in June." By the time the weather turns, a shop is already full of parkas and will decline yours whatever the label.
  • Unworn items with the original tags still onKeep them separate and still tagged. Do not launder them or remove the tags to make them look tidy.

Rarely worth anything

Not a rule, and not a reason to bin something without asking. These are the things people most often expect to be worth money and find are not.

  • Mid-market and fast-fashion labels, at a luxury consignor
  • Clothing with stains, balling, repairs or odours
  • Household linens in bulk: towels, sheets, duvet covers, curtains
  • Single socks, single shoes, rags and fabric scraps
  • Underwear and worn-out basics
  • The whole-house pile, taken as a pile
Second-hand textiles are exempt from federal fibre-content labelling if labelled as second-hand Federal (Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations, C.R.C., c. 1551, s. 9, under the Textile Labelling Act)

Section 9: "A prescribed consumer textile article that is clearly identified by means of a label as a second-hand article is exempt from the application of section 3 of the Act." The regulations do not define "second-hand", and the exemption is conditional on the article carrying that label. Relevant if you are reselling a quantity of clothing as a business rather than giving it away.

7 places in Halifax that take clothes

Brilliant Clothing Boutique

Consignment Bring it to them
Buysdesigner and luxury clothing, handbags, footwear, denim, accessories
Won't takeitems not in good condition, items not freshly washed
The dealConsignment only; no outright purchase is described. The store publishes its split by price band, and these are the consignor's share of the sale price: "$ 0 - 50: 45% | $ 50 - 499: 50% | $ 500 - 999: 60% | $ 1000 & up: 70%." The consignment period is 60 days from acceptance, with a 3-day processing window after drop-off, and unsold items are held 14 days for pickup after that. Payout is not automatic: you email the store on your given date to check your account, and proceeds are either set aside at the store or sent by e-transfer for a $1.50 charge. "We are always accepting Consignment, no appointment necessary, just drop by the store." Items must be "in good condition, and arrive to the store freshly washed."
Where1539 Birmingham Street, Halifax, NS B3J 2J6
You are paid only if the item sells, and only after you contact them — nothing lands in your account automatically. Diarise the 60-day date and the 14-day pickup window.

East Coast Buy and Sell Inc.

Buys outright Not stated — ask
Buysgold (all karats), silver jewellery and coins, sterling silver, platinum, diamond jewellery, estate jewellery, scrap gold, gold watches
The dealOutright purchase only. Their own wording: "We purchase gold (all karats), silver jewellery and coins, sterling silver, platinum, diamond jewellery, estate jewellery, scrap gold, gold watches, and more," with "Immediate cash payment — no waiting." Despite the "Buy and Sell" name, the site describes no pawn loan, no collateral lending and no redemption terms. Pricing is said to follow current gold and silver spot rates; no percentage of spot is published, so the figure is unknown until you are quoted in store.
WhereTwo Halifax stores on their own site: 3200 Kempt Rd and 374 Herring Cove Rd, phone 902-480-7296. The same company also lists a store in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at 536 Second Line West.
Precious metal is bought by weight and purity. Ask to see the item tested and weighed, and ask what price per gram is being applied, before agreeing. If you want a loan rather than a sale, note that the site does not describe one.

Esmé & Evee Vintage

Buys outright Bring it to them
Buysvintage clothing, wide-leg denim and trousers, suede and leather jackets, chore coats and jean jackets, leather boots, purses, silk scarves, knit sweaters and cardigans
Won't takeitems with major stains, holes or pilling, fast fashion including Shein, Amazon, Garage, H&M, Zara and GAP, athletic wear, underwear and bras, skinny jeans, t-shirts
The dealThey buy outright and pay immediately: "We pay in e-transfer on the spot (or cash if necessary)." There is no fixed formula — "We ask what you're hoping to make, then negotiate from there" — and they are explicit that their price reflects their position as the middleperson between you and the next buyer. Intake is one day a week: "Drop by Wednesdays," and "We recommend 10-15 pieces at a time."
Where2674 Agricola St, Halifax, NS B3K 4C9
Wednesdays only for selling, so any other day is a wasted trip for that purpose. Bring items clean and within the quantity they ask for.

Finer Things Antiques & Curios

Buys outright May collect — ask
Buysmilitary and nautical antiques, Indigenous art, Nova Scotia artists' paintings, antique furniture, pre-1850s and Danish Modern, vintage advertising signs, folk art, sterling silver and jewellery, transportation memorabilia, pre-1975 toys and pre-1970 comic books, pottery and glassware, scientific instruments, sporting goods, firearms, seasonal décor
The dealThey buy for their own account rather than taking a cut of a later sale: "We will purchase antiques and collectibles outright and are willing to pay with whatever method is your preference." You do not have to haul anything in first — email a handful of photographs to their address or text the shop number. For estate lots and larger collections they do house calls throughout Nova Scotia.
Where6438 Quinpool Road, Halifax, NS B3L 1A8
This is a dealer buying to resell, and no prices are published, so the figure you are offered is the dealer's own valuation.

Halifax Buy and Sell (Hydrostone)

Buys or lends Not stated — ask
Buysgold, silver, jewellery, laptops, high-end gaming computers, home electronics, televisions, musical instruments, power tools, video game consoles and games
The dealThis is the only shop in this list whose own site confirms it does both. It describes itself as "Specializing in small collateral loans (pawns) and buying and selling new and gently used merchandise." Those are two different transactions. Selling outright ends your claim on the item: the money is yours and the item is theirs. A pawn is a loan secured on the item: you get cash now, the shop holds the item as collateral, and you repay to get it back. If the loan is not redeemed within the agreed period the item is forfeited and sold. The site publishes no loan period, no fee and no rate, so the cost of borrowing is not knowable from the website.
Where3081 Gottingen St, Halifax, NS B3K 3E4
Confirm at the counter which of the two transactions you are being offered. No loan period, fee or rate is published anywhere on the site, so ask for the full terms in writing before pledging anything.

Most Wanted (Dartmouth)

Buys outright Not stated — ask
Buysgold, silver, coins, jewellery, tools, phones, musical instruments, electronics, video games
The dealTrades under a pawn name but the site describes outright purchase only: "We buy gold, silver, coins and jewellery, tested and weighed in front of you" and "We buy tools, phones, instruments and more, cash on the spot." Their About page mentions pawn only in the past tense, describing the first store opening on 12 May 2009 in Charlottetown "as a small but full-featured pawnshop." Checked across the site, no pawn loan, collateral loan, lending or redemption terms are published anywhere. So what is advertised here is a sale: final, and the money is yours.
Where1245 Cole Harbour Road, Dartmouth, NS B2V 1N1
Trades as a pawn shop, but what it advertises is an outright purchase. Ask which one you are being offered.
The name says pawn; the advertised transaction is purchase. Ask which one you are being offered before handing anything over, because a sale cannot be undone and a pawn loan has to be repaid to get the item back.

Room 152 Clothing Boutique

Consignment Bring it to them
Buysdenim, trousers, lightweight sweaters, long sleeve blouses, lightweight jackets and vests, sneakers and loafers, select seasonal boots, bags and wallets, accessories
Won't takesuper skinny jeans, low-rise jeans, overly distressed denim, formal wear, bridal attire, business suits, most high heels, winter coats
The dealConsignment, paid at the end of each cycle: "Each consignment period is two months, at the end of which the consigner receives" a share of what sold. Their published tiers: "40% of the sale price of items under $150," 50% from $150 to $499, 60% from $500 to $999, and "70% of the sale price of items valued from $1000 & up." They take items from a list of approved brands, which the consignment page sets out. No appointment: drop off Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 10-5, and "Please keep your drop offs to 20 items or less."
WhereThe consignment page gives a phone number but no street address, and no address appears on the site's home page or footer either. Call before you load the car so you know where you are going.
Money arrives only at the end of the two-month period, and only for what actually sold. What they accept is seasonal — winter coats are on the refused list — so check that the season fits before dropping off.
